This web site is a portfolio of digital images I have created. Some of them are photos that were taken on trips abroad some were taken within an hour of my home. What they have in common is that they are all digital images. They break down into two basic groups, photos and what I refer to as digital prints. All of the images started as digital photos taken with a Nikon D40 digital camera. Some of the images were taken and created to be viewed as photographs. The others I intentionally removed the reality from the photo rather like an impressionist painter where I was more concerned with color and form rather than reality. This concept of starting with photo realistic images and slowly, little by little, step by step removing the reality from the image leaving behind an impression of what I saw has been a favorite technique of mine since college. The digital component is new the constant has been starting with a photograph. Before the digital age I would go into a darkroom and develop film and create photos that I would use as reference for paintings, or make black and white separations that I would use to create block prints or silkscreens in order to end up with a photo impressionistic image. The techniques I use with the digital files are informed by my experience creating silkscreens and block prints. I hope you enjoy the images.
